Green Schools Travel Flag

As a Green School, our school has been invited to enter The BIG TRAVEL Challenge. We have been asked to achieve a measurable increase in one or more of the following modes of travel: walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, park’n’ride, carpooling, or public transport. We are also being asked to raise awareness of the impact of sustainable travel.

Given that we are a rural school our focus is on promoting car-pooling and the use of public transport in particular.

Any help in achieving an increase in any of the modes of travel listed above would be greatly appreciated. We could even win prizes!!!

Our Green-Schools committee have begun working on our Travel theme. This week is Clean Air week and as part of our work on promoting sustainable travel to and from school, we have decided to launch a ‘No Idling’ campaign outside the school gates. We are asking all vehicle owners to turn their engines off whilst they wait to help improve air quality, reduce emissions and create a healthier environment around our school gates. By making this simple change, we can make a real difference and improve the quality of air we all breathe. Let’s give it a go!

Each child will receive a pledge slip. It would be great if you could sign and return it to show our commitment to the Travel Flag which cover many aspects of travel and road safety.

And the results are in………………Many Thanks and congratulations to all who participated in our Clean Air Week ‘ No Idling’ campaign. We had a great response.
